Thank Him for His Creation
Psalm 104:1-2
Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out to the heavens like a curtain.
In Psalm 104:1 & 2 we read, "Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, You are very great: You are clothed with honor and majesty, who cover Yourself with light as with a garment, who stretch out to the heavens like a curtain."
This is a beautiful time of year for observing sunsets. Recently we have seen some of those beautiful pink and blue skies. Have you ever thought about them as being like a garment that God covers Himself with - a garment that shows the majesty and beauty of the One who made it?
My mother used to sew a lot of my clothing, and she was a wonderful seamstress. When I was covered with the clothing that she made, it was a compliment to her because people could look at it and say that it looked good. They saw something she made and knew that she had done a good job. All of creation is as a garment for the Lord Himself. It is His covering that shows how good and how great He is. Certainly it reflects His majesty and His honor.
Several years ago - many years ago in fact - we were missionaries in the Republic of Zaire (what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo, right in the heart of Africa). Every night we declared it must be the most beautiful sunset that we had ever seen, and we would take a picture. By the time we ended our two years of serving there, we had hundreds of pictures of sunsets. Every one of them somewhat different, and each one seemed to be more beautiful than the next.
Look around you at the sky, at the beauty that is there. See it as a garment displaying God's majesty and His greatness. Think of Him as our Elohim, as it says in the original Hebrew Scriptures (Elohim meaning "our creator").
As you look around, bless the Lord. Say good things about Him. Compliment Him. Thank Him for the wonderful creation He has put around you. I guarantee you if you do that, it will be good medicine. It will take your focus off of yourself and your problems, and it will give you a warmth and a joy knowing that He who has made you, and the whole world, is able to take care of every problem you may encounter in life. Bless the Lord, oh my soul. Think of the Lord, and thank Him as you see His creation.
