She's Here!
Psalm 127:3-5
Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is His reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed but they shall speak with their enemies in the gate.
Thursday was a really long day! Every time the phone rang I jumped to see if it was news from my son-in-law. Waiting for the arrival of that new baby had us all on edge. But now she’s here! Meg Elizabeth arrived just before six o’clock (EST). Weighing in at 6 lbs. 14 oz., that tiny little bundle has already captured and captivated our hearts.
Since my daughter and her family live far away, we haven’t had a chance to actually see the baby yet, but I just can’t stop looking at her pictures. (Thank you, Lord, for digital cameras and e-mail!) As I look, I pray for her and for the woman of God she will become, just as I prayed for her two big sisters, and long ago prayed for her mother when she was born.
Truly our family has been blessed. Looking back I see several generations of strong Christian women. My great-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth, left a legacy of strength and mercy that was spoken of often in my home as I was growing up. Memories of my grandmother, also named Elizabeth, center on the years she spent faithfully caring for my grandfather after his health declined. My own mother provided me with an example of godly living, and though we often butted heads as many mothers and daughters do, she taught me to love God and to serve Him by serving others. I’m reminded of the promise that runs throughout the Old Testament that the blessings of the righteous will be passed down from generation to generation.
Realizing that the way I live my life has a direct effect on not only my children, but my grandchildren and their children certain is a sobering thought! It makes me strive for holiness and righteousness so that they will be blessed. I long for them to know the goodness of God and to see His faithfulness day after day. I pray for them to find His grace sufficient for their every need. Oh, that they would know the joy that I have known because of the godly women who preceded me!
Gracious Father, my heart overflows with thanksgiving and praise to You for the precious little grandchildren You have placed in our family. Bless them and help them as they grow to become women of God who will bless others.
