A Light for My Path Devotional

Rest in His Grip

ISAIAH 41:13
For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

Slowly, casually the father and his young child sauntered down the quiet street sharing the pleasure of a beautiful afternoon. It was a carefree moment and the child loosely held on to his daddy’s index finger as they walked. They were connected not only by their hands but by their hearts.

As they neared the intersection, though, things changed. There were more people on the sidewalk and moving vehicles passed by quickly. No longer was the father satisfied with his gentle connection with his son. He grasped the child’s hand tightly. The boy simply stood close to his father, reassured by that grasp even though he was never fully aware of the all the dangers that surrounded him. Pulling his son close to him, the father and child crossed the street together safely. When they passed the danger, the father relaxed his grip and they continued their leisurely walk.

What a beautiful illustration of the words God spoke to the prophet Isaiah when He said, “I will hold thy right hand.” This doesn’t refer to a simple touch but the tight, protective grasp of our loving Father when we face a danger or a difficult situation. It’s a grasp that says, “Now I’m holding you. You cannot run away from Me and no one else can harm you because I am holding you close to Me.”

My friend, whatever you face today, know that your Father holds you tightly in His grip. Rest quietly in that awareness.  Relax and let His strength be all that you need in that moment.

Almighty Father, knowing that You always watch out for me and that You grasp my hand in times of danger calms and comforts my heart. Thank You for Your protection and Your help.
