A Light for My Path Devotional

Never Say Never?

ROMANS 8:38-39 (NKJV)
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,  nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

My mother used to tell me, “Never say ‘never’ because that’s the very thing that you’ll be sure to do.” And she was right about that much of the time. How many times did I say, “I’m never going to do that!” and I wound up doing that very thing nearly every time! That’s discouraging; however, based on the promises of God, there are times when we can say “Never” and find great peace and comfort. These declarations help us know with absolute certainty that they will always and forever be true. No alterations. No tweaking. No changes—ever!

NEVER will He leave you! NEVER will He forsake you! (Hebrews 13:5)
For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.

NEVER can you be separated from His love (Romans 8:38-39)
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,  nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

NEVER will He change! (Hebrews 13:8)
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

NEVER will God’s people be put to shame (Joel 2:27)
I am the Lord your God
And there is no other.
My people shall never be put to shame.

NEVER will we huger or thirst after another source when we follow Jesus (John 4:13-14; John 6:35)
Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,  but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.

And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”

I’m so thankful for the “Nevers” of scripture! They give me reassurance, hope, peace, and joy, and security. In response to God’s goodness to me, may I say and live by the words of King David in Psalm 119:93, “I will never forget Your precepts, For by them You have given me life.”

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for the incredible peace I have when I remember Your promises and Your faithfulness.

Words to Ponder:
No, never alone! No, never alone!
He promised never to leave me,
Never to leave me alone!
No, never alone! No, never alone!
He promised never to leave me,
Never to leave me alone!
