JUDE 24-35 (NKJV)
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling,
And to present you faultless
Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy,
To God our Savior,
Who alone is wise,
Be glory and majesty,
Dominion and power,
Both now and forever.
Wow! Here in the northeastern section of the USA, we got hammered last weekend with an unusual and intense October snowstorm. Where I live there was about eight inches of gorgeous, sparkling snow that draped the fall-colored trees providing one of the most spectacular scenes I’ve ever witnessed. But in spite of the breathtaking beauty, that storm was treacherous! The heavy weight of the wet snow snapped limbs, cracked trunks, and dropped trees through roofs, on cars, in yards and across roadways. And because it was so wet, it was extremely slippery and icy.
On the way to Sunday School the next morning, I stopped at a nearby church to drop off materials. Someone did a great job of clearing the snow off the sidewalk and steps, but even then it was still slippery. To steady myself, I grabbed the metal handrail only to find it was covered with solid ice! The very thing I took hold of to steady me, was actually no help at all. In fact, it was a potential danger. Thankfully, I managed to inch my way down the steps and back to the car without falling.
It reminded me of the many times in life when things seem slippery and out of control, when I’m not sure what’s happening next, or when confusion clouds my way and I grab hold of something that really provides me with no security or help at all. My own earthly wisdom or someone else’s, sensual pleasure, the philosophy of the world, or distorted thinking, are all dangers in disguise that lead me away from the true source of stability.
It is only as I hold on to the Lord Jesus Christ that I find true steadiness. Only in His Word is there perfect wisdom and clear guidance. Only by listening to the voice of His Spirit will I know the path to walk, and only in Him can I experience true joy and satisfaction. Through prayer, regular and consistent reading, deep Bible study, and meditation I can know that my feet are on solid ground and all is well. Christ alone will keep me from stumbling and He will keep me steady. Truly He is my stability.
Lord Jesus, how I thank You and praise You for the solid foundation You alone provide! Thank You for this marvelous security that is always available to me no matter what life brings my way.
