A Light for My Path Devotional

Eggs in the Nest

And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible . . . all things were created by Him, and for Him: And He is before all things, and by Him all things consist.

One week after the robin began building her nest on my windowsill she was ready.  On Saturday morning as I peeked to see her, she was gone from the nest but there inside were three perfectly formed beautiful blue eggs.  By evening there were four.

I look at her and I marvel.  How did she know when it was time to build the nest?  How is it that she chose the same kind of materials to form her home and shaped it in precisely the same way as all the other robins?  She never took Nest Building 101 or had a course in material selection–How did she know?  Why are her eggs so brilliantly colored?  How are they so perfectly shaped?

The answer lies not within the robin but in the One who formed her and gave life to her.  Though many would tell us that these phenomena just naturally formed and evolved over time, it takes more faith for me to believe that than it does to believe in a God I cannot see, whose audible voice I’ve never heard.  Clearly His voice speaks through the glory of creation, and His existence is experienced by those who know Him.  Yes, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork.”

Lord, when I pause to look at the wonders around me I am amazed at Your greatness and astounded by Your infinite creativity.  Truly You are the Great Creator and Sustainer of all life!
